Changing Patient Consent: When Is It Okay?

You can only change patient consent when that patient has signed the form with their new selection.

In some cases, you may have consent-based alerting, or a patient may leave your program. To expire a consent, send us the patient’s name and date of birth securely, and our team can manually expire those consent forms in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Understanding consent is vital to ensuring patient privacy & safety!

  • Records may only be viewed for patients who have given a “yes” consent, except in select Break the Glass situations
  • Consent only applies at the organization at which it was given
  • Any authorized user at the organization with a treating relationship may access the patient’s record
  • Patients only need to consent once, but can change their choice at any time
  • Providers can’t refuse treatment based upon consent choice
