Urgent Care

As an urgent care facility, your patients come from anywhere, at any time, and their usual healthcare providers may not be available. They need treatment quickly. Or, if they don’t have a primary care physician, you’ll fill the role as primary caregiver, and accessing the HIE during their visit can provide crucial information.

How can urgent care centers use Patient Lookup, Image Exchange, Results Delivery, and Direct Mail to provide great care?

Jack is a 28-year-old male who plays baseball in a local league. During an out-of-town game, he tripped and fell, hurting his wrist. He knew that he needed to have the arm examined. A friend drove him to a nearby Urgent Care for an x-ray, where he was asked about his past medical history and medications. The nurse practitioner then examined his arm, ordered an x-ray, and discovered the arm was severely sprained. They prescribed pain medication, the arm was splinted, and Jack was able to go home.

The Urgent Care registration clerk obtained consent from Jack to view his records through Patient Lookup. The triage nurse downloaded a copy of his medications and allergies.

The radiologist across town read the x-ray via Image Exchange, and sent results directly back to the Urgent Care facility via Results Delivery.

The nurse practitioner sent visit notes to Jack’s primary care provider via Direct Mail for follow-up.

The most common services used by urgent care centers are:

Patient Lookup
  • Urgent Care providers can access a patient’s comprehensive electronic medical record to view their medical history
  • Registration and billing staff can view a patient’s most currently reported insurance information
Direct Mail
  • Urgent Care providers can quickly and easily communicate with a patient’s primary care physician, specialist, or with emergency department doctors regarding the patient’s transition of care
Query-Based Exchange
  • Healthcare providers can access state and federal systems and other external partners to view patient data
