COVID-19 Resources & Updates

HealtheConnections is continuing our operations and getting crucial information into the hands of the teams on the front lines of this crisis as they navigate diagnosing, treating, and preventing the spread of this virus.

We recognize the critical nature of your work with patients during this hectic time. In partnership with the NYS Department of Health (DOH) and other nonprofit organizations like ours in the state, we can provide you with the COVID-19 information you need right away.

Part of the work that we’ve been conducting includes partnering with the NYS Department of Health to supply surveillance information they need to track COVID-19, and engaging with local and county health departments to assist with sharing community information.

The NYS Department of Health (DOH) collects lab data from throughout the state through the Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reporting System (ECLRS), which includes laboratories that are not currently connected to send data directly to HealtheConnections. Through a special partnership, this data is now accessible in HealtheConnections and visible through all resources listed below.

COVID-19 Resources Available Immediately

Self-service COVID-19 Lab Results Report:

  • Access a detailed list of your patients who have been tested for COVID-19 and their results.
  • View and filter lab results, including positive, negative, in progress, and inconclusive results.
  • Includes data from the NYS Department of Health, which is refreshed once per day and covers tests from all across the state.
  • This report is also available to authorized public health users for patients within their county.

Real-time Clinical Alerting:

  • Real-time alerts sent to your email regarding your patients
    • When lab results are ready to be viewed
    • When patient is admitted/discharged/transferred from the Emergency Department
  • These alerts will be sent to you through Direct Mail. In your normal email inbox, the subject line will read “You Have Received a New DIRECT Message”. When you receive that notice, log in to your secure Direct Mail inbox. You will see a message marked “COVID-19 Lab Information Ready in HealtheConnections”.
  • Set up is immediate upon activating your account

Reports for Local Health Departments:

  • COVID-19 Hospitalization Report allows public health professionals to see recent hospitalizations for patients who have tested positive.
  • COVID-19 Lab Results Report detailing positive and negative tests within your counties that includes patient demographic and contact information for tracing purposes.

Patient Lookup:

  • Look up patient medical histories with their consent including procedures, allergies, vitals, medications, and more.
  • Need information from another practice? Click here to see if a practice is a data contributor so you may be able to access their records - even if they are closed.

What else can I do with my account?

  • Access lab, radiology, and transcribed reports. We're receiving data from every hospital in your region.
  • Query state and federal databases including Veterans Administration and Department of Defense records.
  • Send HIPAA-compliant communications to your referral partners.

Policy Updates

Waiver of SHIN-NY Written Consent for Telehealth

The New York State Department of Health is allowing informed, verbal documented consent for telehealth visits in lieu of the current SHIN-NY written consent requirements per 10 NYCRR Part 300. The witnesses can sign an electronic or hard copy of the required consent form on behalf of the telehealth patient. This will remain active for the duration of New York State's State of Emergency.

Access data for populations at greater risk due to COVID-19.

Access COVID-19 high-risk populations data for 6 Central New York counties (Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego) via HealtheCNY.org/COVID19.
