History

HealtheConnections™ is a product of the Health Advancement Collaborative of Central New York (HAC-CNY), a regional collaborative of leaders in health care, business, and insurance formed in 2005 to address shared concerns about health care access, quality, and costs in Central New York. A not-for-profit organization, HAC-CNY’s founding members include:
  • Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce
  • Hospital Executive Council
  • Manufacturers Association of Central New York
  • Metropolitan Development Association of Syracuse and Central New York
  • Onondaga Medical Society
  • Excellus BlueCross BlueShield
The following businesses are also represented on the Board of Directors:
  • C&S Engineers
  • MVP Health Care
  • Kinney Drugs
  • Syracuse University
  • Welch Allyn
  • Stickley Audi
Building a Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) has been one of HAC-CNY’s highest priorities since it was formed in 2005. HAC-CNY has raised nearly $3.5 million to support the launch of HealtheConnections™. This includes $900,000 in federal appropriations funds, $2.1 million in New York State HEAL 5 funds, and $350,000 in corporate contributions from Excellus, MVP Health Care, and National Grid. Rob Hack was hired in April of 2010 as the first Executive Director of HealtheConnections™.
The initial participants committed to connecting to HealtheConnections™ consist of the following:
Hospitals
  • Community General Hospital
  • Crouse Hospital
  • St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center
  • Upstate University Hospital
Medical practices
  • CNY Family Care
  • Family Care Medical Group
  • Internist Associates of CNY
  • St. Joseph’s Primary Care Centers
  • St. Joseph’s Physician Health PC
  • Upstate University Hospital Associated Physician Practices
Labs
  • Laboratory Alliance of CNY
  • Upstate University Hospital Lab
Beginning in 2011, additional hospitals, physicians, and labs will be connected throughout the region. Over time, long-term care facilities, other health care entities, and connections to essential public health information will also be incorporated. These include potential connections with the other 11 RHIOs currently operating across New York State.
